Moab Bike version 4.1 for the year 2016 replaces and is an upgrade of version 3.x released early in 2015. It adds 30+ new bike trails in the Moab area. These trails are in the Gemini Bridges/Horsethief campground area, the Amasa Back area and the South Klonzo area. It also shows a number of refinements and corrections to existing trails. There are now 169 trails or tracks total, counting connections between major trails. Otherwise, this release works exactly the same same the previous release did.
Moab Bike builds-in most Moab, Utah area mountain bike trails and displays your current GPS position against Apple maps, enabling you to view, evaluate, find and navigate these trails. Trails are color-coded for difficulty. Tapping a trail marker highlights the trail and shows its name, difficulty (in more detail), and length. Most trails contain elevation information, and if so, total up and down grades and an elevation profile plot are shown. Any of three map layers (roads, satellite and hybrid) are displayed using long-press. Views may be translated, zoomed, rotated or tilted with the usual gestures.
A search feature allows you to find trails by name from an alphabetized list and return to a zoomed in map display centered on that trail.
km and miles scales are shown on the map for your convenience in estimating distances.
While navigation is quite simple, detailed instructions on how to use this app are included on its Info page.
The trails presented here are those suggested and endorsed by Trail Mix, a Moab-based non-profit and largely volunteer organization that works closely with the BLM and other organizations to build and maintain trails. This list is by no means inclusive, in part because there are a number of illegal or non-endorsed trails intentionally not shown here. Trail that are primarily used by four-wheeled vehicles, notably the White Rim trail, are also not included.
To use, you must view the area you wish to visit before leaving a Wi-Fi or phone service area in order to cache map tiles on your device. Otherwise, no Wi-Fi or phone service in the field is required.
While Moab, near Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, is a world-premier mountain bike recreation area, Moab Bike may also be used for general-purpose map and satellite viewing for any location in the world.
A portion of the proceeds resulting from the sale of this app has been and will continue to be donated to Trail Mix. There is no advertising in this app.
